The Woodford County Library is accepting applications for the following job opening:


Children's Librarian 

Main Library

Full-Time • $45,000–$55,000 Annual Salary • 37.5 hours per week


The Woodford County Library seeks a dynamic, creative, and energetic individual with a strong commitment to public service to serve as Children's Librarian. This position provides exceptional library services for children from birth through age 12 and their families, promoting early literacy, lifelong learning, and a love of reading through engaging programming, collection development, outreach, reader's advisory, and community partnerships.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, implement, and evaluate children's programs, including storytimes, STEM activities, book clubs, summer reading events, crafts, and special events.

Develop programs that support early literacy and educational enrichment.

Create engaging displays and promotional materials highlighting children's collections and services.

Provide reader's advisory services to children, parents, caregivers, and educators.

Assist patrons with locating materials, using library resources, and accessing technology.

Select, evaluate, purchase, maintain, and weed materials for the children's collection.

Build relationships with local schools, preschools, childcare centers, homeschool groups, and community organizations.

Represent the library at community events and outreach programs.

Maintain accurate program statistics and prepare reports as required.

Assist with departmental planning, budgeting, and goal setting.

Participate in staff meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities.


Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS/MLS) from an ALA-accredited program.

Experience working with children in a library, school, educational, or related setting.

Knowledge of children's literature, early literacy principles, child development, and current educational trends.

Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and public speaking skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Ability to establish positive relationships with children, families, schools, and community partners.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities and technology.

Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.


Work Schedule

Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Regular evening and weekend hours are required as part of the library's public service schedule.


Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods. Must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, push loaded book carts, and shelve materials.


Salary and Benefits

Salary range is $45,000–$55,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include an employer-paid single health insurance premium, with family and spouse plans available at the employee's expense; employer contributions to the Kentucky Public Pensions Authority retirement plan; vacation and sick leave. Delta Dental insurance and participation in a Kentucky Deferred Compensation plan are also available.
